For years we worked on a new PS denim, and finally settled on these Japanese fabrics. We made two shirts out of it. 

Details

Worked on for years, this PS denim finally settled on Japanese fabrics, made into two shirts: a deliberately pale light blue, close in colour to a blue dress shirt or Oxford and just as versatile; and a washed black with a soft colour that won't change much over time.

This season's shirts feature a classic button-down collar, matching the popular Selvedge Chambray – a small tweak that makes the shirt more classic and easier to wear with tailoring.

Made in 100 Hands' Indian atelier, beautifully handcrafted with hand-sewn collars, armholes, buttons and buttonholes.

Sizing
  • All PS shirts (Oxford, Selvedge Chambray, Madras, Ramie, Japanese Denim) are cut to the same body fit, so a size that fits in one should fit in all of them, once washed.
  • The Oxford is the only fabric with noticeable shrinkage, so it's cut slightly larger to begin with. After a couple of washes it settles to the same size as the Denim and Chambray shirts.
  • The steps between sizes are fairly large, covering most people across four sizes. The fit is relatively slim; the best guide is to prioritise fit in the collar, shoulders and chest, since anything from the armpit down can be altered by a tailor (darts or side seams).

  • Unless noted otherwise below, wash shirts cool (30 degrees) and hang or dry on a rack – do not tumble dry.

Although we call the blue a denim, it's a plain weave, whereas the black is a twill – it suited the colour better.

Simon says

On the black: "I've been looking to find a consistent black denim for a while. I thought it would be nice to have a denim shirt we could dress up or down, but also wanted the fabric to feel lived in."

On the blue: "A denim shirt like this with jeans is one of my favourite combinations, as readers will be aware. I've destroyed several from Al Bazar, as well as several PS denim ones, through relentless wear over the years."
