The Bruce Chino

One of our longest developments to date, the culmination of five years' work, the Permanent Style chino is finally here.

Made in Florence by East Harbour Surplus, the Bruce chino is an everyday staple, inspired by traditional models, old washes, and a desire to give the PS reader a foundational, year-round piece in their wardrobe. 

The Bruce has a mid-rise and a straight leg, with comfortable side pockets and open rear ones. It's made in a double-twisted gabardine cotton, with a right hand twill for strength, garment washed to produce a perfect, lived-in feel. 

There are two colours. The beige was faithfully recreated from an archive Polo pair to produce the most versatile shade: slightly muted, slightly greyed, not too yellow or too warm. As a result it goes with everything from browns and blacks, to bright reds and greens.

The khaki is a washed olive shade, again picked for versatility. It too can be worn smart with neutrals in cream, navy or black, or worn with colour such as pink, tobacco and burgundy.

The waistband of the chinos is split to make taking them in easier, but garment washing means there will be a faint mark if taking them out. But anyway, the style means we would recommend taking the larger size and having the waist taken in, if in doubt. A more generous, comfortable shape will be better than a tight one. The chinos come unhemmed to allow you to alter them to length. 

Simon wears a 48, Lucas a 54 and Manish a 50. The size corresponds to the chest size in suiting, with a six-inch drop meaning a 48 corresponds to a size 34 waist.
