The modern working jacket. A highly water-resistant piece with both style and functionality, this Permanent Style design is the perfect piece to transition from work to weekend. 

Details

Coat details:

  • Wool/cashmere blend coat with a waterproof liner and suede details
  • Made in England by Private White VC
  • Five external pockets: two flapped on the hip, two on the chest, one phone pocket inside the placket
  • Three internal pockets: two buttoned chest pockets, one larger buttoned hip pocket
  • Cuffs have snaps and straps, to tighten against the cold or change the fit when not wearing a jacket underneath
  • Two small vents on the back help movement, and can be snapped shut

Drop liner:

  • Sits between the outer material and the lining, making the coat waterproof
  • Perforated, so it's breathable but doesn't let moisture in
  • A mix of polyester and polyurethane
  • Adds no weight, but does add wind-resistance
  • The coat also has a water-resistant treatment on the outside

Suede:

  • Lamb's suede is used on the undercollar, the underside of the hip pocket flaps, and the cuff ends. 
  • The coat can still be cleaned by a regular dry cleaner – if in doubt, ask them not to press the collar. Pressing is the risk rather than cleaning, and less so on suede than leather, since suede won't dry out.
Sizing
  • The Wool Walker fits true to size, and is cut straight rather than slim (the waist cinch enables it to be slimmer if you wish)
  • In the images Simon is wearing a size 4 (medium) and is 6 foot tall, with a 39-inch chest. For information on his proportions and other sizing, see dedicated article here
  • We highly recommend comparing the measurements below to a coat you already own, however, rather than going off body measurements
  • All measurements are with the jacket laid flat. Chest is straight across, from 2.5cm under the armpit; waist is taken 47cm down the jacket; length is from the bottom of the collar to the hem

Material & Care
  • Outer: 90% wool, 10% cashmere, 20oz, woven in England
  • Suede on the undercollar, underside of hip pocket flaps, and cuff ends
  • Can be cleaned by a regular dry cleaner – ask them not to press the suede collar if in doubt

Alterations: sleeves and sleeve linings can be lengthened by up to 3cm. Shortening is also possible, and the wrist strap can be removed if required. The body can be taken in but not let out, and can be shortened (the small back vents would need shortening to match).

Long enough to cover a tailored jacket, it's made of a wool/cashmere material in a deep, dark navy, which looks as good with suit trousers and black loafers as it does with jeans and boots.

The jacket also features a drop liner, which makes it entirely waterproof – a breathable layer that sits between the wool and the wearer, so even if the coat gets wet, you don't. It can be cinched against the cold or to adjust the fit, and has details like black suede on the cuffs and collar.

It's sleek, with flush patch pockets and plunge pockets cut into the seams. "It's such a flattering cut, which I love – that combination of a pleated back, cinchable waist and vents creates a real hero's silhouette."
