The Wax Walker

£745.00

The modern wax jacket. A highly water-resistant piece with both style and functionality - including a removable, reversible liner.

This latest collaboration between Simon and Manchester factory Private White VC was aimed at producing a more contemporary, urban version of the traditional waxed cotton jacket.

To that end it uses a deep, dark brown wax with black corduroy on the collar and cuffs. It is sleek, with flush patch pockets and plunge pockets that are cut into the seams. And it's flattering, with a pleated back, cinchable waist and vents.

The lining inside - of English-woven grey flannel - means it can be worn as a cool or cold-weather piece, Autumn or Winter. Plus the lining can be reversed, if you want a smooth lining outermost, to make the jacket easier to slip on and off.

Says Simon, "The design has some very cool details. For example, we put a panel of wool jersey across the whole top of the back, connecting the inside edges of the pleats. It makes the action back work so well, yet it's completely hidden. I love that."

Like all wax jackets, the Wax Walker is not waterproof, but is highly water-resistant. The English wax cotton is sewn with thicker thread which fills the holes by expanding when it gets wet, and other details, such as have a single panel over shoulders, help reduce weak points.

The jacket has two hip pockets and two cashmere-lined hand-warmer pockets on the outside. It also has a zipped phone pocket under the fly front, and a two way zip down the front. Inside are a further two inbreast pockets, and a large hip pocket.

The jacket is cut long enough to fit over a tailored jacket, and the colour makes it smart enough for an urban commute. But, it also works well with casual chinos and boots, as shown in the pictures here.

What customers say

"The beautiful copper hardware contrasts nicely with the rich brown fabric. Zippers are smooth. Love the “Made in Manchester” detailing on the copper snaps with cross insignia. Chest pockets and inside glove pocket deep so stuff is secure.Corduroy on the sleeves prevents wrist chafing."

Sizing:

- The Wax Walker fits true to size, and is cut straight rather than slim (the waist cinch enables it to be slimmer if you wish)

- In the images Simon is wearing a size 4 (medium) and is 6 foot tall, with a 39-inch chest

- We highly recommend comparing the measurements below to a coat you already own, however, rather than going off body measurements

- All measurements are with the jacket laid flat. Chest is straight across, from 2.5cm under the armpit; waist is taken 47cm down the jacket; length is from the bottom of the collar to the hem
