The Finest Crewneck is a luxury staple. A piece to be worn every day, yet the finest of its type anywhere.

Details

A luxury staple, to be worn every day, yet the finest of its type.

Uses one of the finest merino yarns available, at the finest knitting gauge. Merino is used rather than cashmere because, lovely as cashmere is, when knitted finely it tends to pill and lose its shape. Fine merino approaches cashmere in feel but pills less, holds its shape and looks sharper.

This makes the knitwear fine but not particularly delicate compared to cashmere. It fits under any jacket, and provides a notable layer of warmth without being too heavy – good for travelling, given it folds up small and is lightweight (150g), and suited to modern offices where air conditioning can make a jacket or normal knitwear too warm.

Manufacturing highlights include a wide join between the body and sleeve, so it can be thinner and flatter, almost eradicating the feeling of a seam; seams where the yarn is flattened and re-stitched, to remove the small hard knot most knitwear has; and a collar knitted as one piece, so there's no seam at the back of the V-neck point.

Design details include a flat, close collar suitable for wearing with a shirt or on its own; ribbing on the hem that's slightly longer than normal, shortening and broadening the torso; and a sleeve cuff lengthened to match, at 7cm, for a dressier feel.

Sizing

The finest crewneck used to be quite slim, but we relaxed them two years ago, adding 2cm in the waist. The result is now a classic, comfortable fit. The finest crewneck fits the same as the Dartmoor, Exmoor and Finest Polo

Simon says

“The finest crewneck is most at home with a smart pair of trousers - perfect for the office worker who wants something to wear instead of a shirt with his tailored strides or nice chinos.

It can be worn with more casual trousers, such as jeans, but I would always err towards the smarter end of any such category - an ecru denim or a dark indigo one, in a neat cut, not a baggier mid-blue with rips or heavy fades. It wouldn’t look wrong necessarily, you’re just not making the most of the style.”

What our customers say

“Just a note to say what a joy these crew necks are to wear. I have bought both the navy and charcoal and I have already ordered the black. In my view, they represent some of the very best offerings from PS. Well done to you all !”
