Details

A reinterpretation of the subtle madras PS offered a few years ago, now hand-woven in the traditional manner in Chennai (once Madras). Hand weaving is a slower process, allowing more air into the fabric for an open weave – the shirt breathes better in the heat and softens over time.

The check uses strong colours – bright blue, yellow, pink – balanced with off-white and tobacco. It doesn't have the high contrast often seen in madras, which suits the heat and vibrancy of India but can be harder to wear elsewhere.

Alongside the original orange/blue colourway, two new variants were released in 2026: a blue/grey madras and a cream/yellow madras. Read the full article about the project here.

  • Hand-made in Naples, Italy, by the workshop of Luca Avitabile
  • Hand-attached collars and armholes, hand-sewn buttons and buttonholes
  • Button-down collar designed to roll open from the neck, and around a lapel
  • Length of a regular dress shirt, so largely worn tucked in, though can be worn untucked as a style choice
Sizing
  • All PS shirts (Oxford, Selvedge Chambray, Madras, Ramie, Japanese Denim) are cut to the same body fit, so a size that fits in one should fit in all of them, once washed.
  • The Oxford is the only fabric with noticeable shrinkage, so it's cut slightly larger to begin with. After a couple of washes it settles to the same size as the Denim and Chambray shirts.
  • The steps between sizes are fairly large, covering most people across four sizes. The fit is relatively slim; the best guide is to prioritise fit in the collar, shoulders and chest, since anything from the armpit down can be altered by a tailor (darts or side seams).

Simon says

"The Madras is in many ways a summer equivalent of that same idea of the Oxford – casual, soft and open, and something that gets better the more it's worn.

Worn with blue jeans, mid-blue, dark indigo or white, it's an easy, universal combination. It's also great with chinos in classic beige or navy, and those pair particularly well with shorts in hot weather."

What our customers say

"The element that I find most compelling is the collar. These shirts hit a really wonderful niche for me, provide a great fit and are wonderful quality."
